Privacy
This website is run by Studio Ruben van Schalm (registered as Ruben van Schalm Photography, Dutch Chamber of Commerce no. 64379655). We collect as little personal data as we can, and only to answer your questions, send news you have asked for, and understand how the site is used. We never sell your data. For any question about your data, write to info@rubenvanschalm.com.
What we collect
Enquiries. When you enquire about a work or contact the studio, we receive your name, email address, any phone number you give, your message and the work you asked about. We use this only to reply and to follow up on that enquiry.
Mailing list. If you subscribe, or tick the box on the enquiry form, we keep your email address (and name, if you give it) to send occasional news about new work, exhibitions and publications. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time.
Website use. With your consent, we measure how visitors use the site: pages viewed, time spent, device and approximate location. This is described under Cookies below.
Why we use it
We answer enquiries because you asked us to, and to take a sale or loan forward where relevant. We send the mailing list and use analytics only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We keep records needed for invoices and tax because the law requires it.
Cookies
Essential cookies keep the site working and remember your cookie choices; they are always on. Everything else is off until you agree, and you can change your choice at any time through Manage cookies at the bottom of every page.
Statistics: Google Analytics and Hotjar help us understand which pages and works people look at and how the site performs. Hotjar may record anonymised sessions (clicks, scrolling and mouse movement); it does not record what you type into forms.
Marketing: Google's advertising features help us measure our advertising on other platforms.
Embedded content: films are played through Vimeo, and fonts are served by Adobe Fonts and Google Fonts. These services may receive your IP address when they load.
Who we share it with
We share data only with the services that run the site for us: Artlogic (website and contact database), Google (analytics, advertising measurement and spam protection with reCAPTCHA), Hotjar, Vimeo and Adobe. Some of these are based outside the European Economic Area. Where they are, the transfer is protected by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. We never sell personal data or share it with galleries or third parties without your permission.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and correspondence: up to three years after our last contact, unless they lead to a sale. Sales records: seven years, as Dutch tax law requires. Mailing list: until you unsubscribe. Analytics data: fourteen months.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy, or object to how we use it. Email info@rubenvanschalm.com and we will reply within one month. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl), or to the authority in your own country.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date.
